Northeast Tennessee Career Centers offers Out of School Youth Training Programs through the Workforce Investment Act which are managed by the Alliance for Business and Training (AB&T). The Career Center Staff can refer you to AB&T for these programs.

They are:  Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Out of School Youth Programs - AB&T provides programs for out of school youth (high school graduates and dropouts) through the Career Center System and other competitively procured programs. The primary goal of the out of school youth program is to provide occupational skills training and supportive services to enable youth to meet the requirements for high demand occupations. Various training opportunities are available to youth through area training institutions or training contractors. Opportunities are also available for youth who have dropped out of school and have become disconnected from mainstream education. These youth are offered another opportunity to successfully transition into skilled, educated, productive citizens.

Health Care Career Builder - One WIA program available to out of school youth   is the Health Care Career Builder Program contracted through Appalachian Christian Village. This program provides job shadowing and mentoring opportunities in conjunction with CNA Training provided through Tennessee Technology Center in Elizabethton and Appalachian Christian Village in Johnson City. Participants who successfully complete their training are hired by Appalachian Christian Village at a competitive wage. After completion of one year of employment at Appalachian Christian Village, these youth are provided an opportunity to pursue training to become a licensed practical nurse.

YouthBuild – AB&T operates the YouthBuild Program through a grant received from the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Eligible YouthBuild participants earn an hourly wage while training in the construction trades and working toward obtaining their GED. The program provides hands on learning opportunities in construction and GED instruction during the classroom component of YouthBuild. YouthBuild is a comprehensive youth and community development program that addresses core issues facing low income and at risk youth: education, jobs, counseling, and leadership development.  For more information on AB&T's YouthBuild programs please visit the YouthBuild web page.
